Leaving the hospital is good news, but the trip home can be the hardest part of the day. StepRite provides scheduled, non-emergency rides from the hospital to home, to a relative’s house, or to a rehab or nursing facility.
Call us as soon as there is a likely discharge day. You do not need the exact time yet, and our phones are answered 24/7.
Confirm once the discharge order is written. The nurse or case manager can tell you roughly when the patient will be ready.
Tell us what is waiting at the other end: steps, a ramp, whether someone will be home, and whether the patient will need a wheelchair for the ride.
For Planners
For discharge planners and case managers
We need the patient’s name, the unit and room, the destination address, the mobility level and the ready time. We confirm the pickup by phone. We do not need diagnoses or medical records to arrange a ride. See our page for healthcare facilities.
Home or Rehab
Going home or going to rehab
If the patient is going to a skilled nursing or rehab facility, give us the facility name and the admitting contact. We will make sure we arrive during the facility’s admission hours.
The Driver
What the driver does
The driver meets the patient at, helps them into the van, and helps them inside at the destination.
Other Needs
When a wheelchair van is not enough
Patients who cannot sit upright for the trip may need stretcher transport by ambulance. If that is the case, we will tell you at the first call.
How It Works
Booking a ride
Call or request online
Call (862) 297-3071 any time, day or night, or send a request online. Tell us who is riding, where from and to, the date and time, and how they get around.
We confirm the details
A StepRite coordinator calls back to confirm the pickup time and the vehicle.
We pick up
The driver arrives at the agreed time and helps the rider to the van.
We bring them home
Return trips are scheduled when you book or arranged when the appointment ends.
Please book at least 24 hours ahead. Need a ride today? Call (862) 297-3071 and we will see what we can do. Please do not send diagnoses, medical records or insurance ID numbers through the website; we only ask for what we need to plan the ride.
